instruction for life...according to the Dalai Lama

§ Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

§ Memorize your favorite poem.

§ Don’t believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

§ When you say, “I love you”, mean it.

§ When you say, “I’m sorry”, look the person in the eye.

§ Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

§ Believe in love at first sight.

§ Never laugh at anyone’s dreams.

§ Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it’s the only way to live life completely.

§ In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

§ Don’t judge people by their relatives.

§ Talk slowly but think quickly.

§ When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, “Why do you want to know?”

§ Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

§ Call your mom.

§ Say “bless you” when you hear someone sneeze.

§ When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

§ Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.

§ Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

§ When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

§ Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

§ Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

§ Spend some time alone.

§ Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

§ Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

§ Read more books and watch less TV.

§ Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll get to enjoy it a second time.

§ Trust in God but lock your car.

§ A loving atmosphere in your home is so important. Do all you can to create a tranquil harmonious home.

§ In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.

§ Read between the lines.

§ Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.

§ Be gentle with the earth.

§ Pray. There’s immeasurable power in it.

§ Never interrupt when you are being flattered.

§ Mind your own business.

§ Don’t trust a man/woman who doesn’t close his/her eyes when you kiss.

§ At least once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

§ If you make a lot of money, put it to use helping others while you are living. That is wealth’s greatest satisfaction.

§ Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of luck.

§ Learn the rules then break some.

§ Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other.

§ Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

§ Remember that your character is your destiny.

§ Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

kerja! kerja! kerja!

yoga?

Monday was like any other day.

lunch was with Zai & Ima at Kuchei's. the mee kari special was bad-ass sinful. not recommended for gym-rats!

someone tried to commit suicide at MJC when we sent Ima to her work place. the idiot's attempt was not successful. however, the crowd was unbelievable. most had recorded the "historical occurrance" via their digital and cell phone cameras. kalau nak mampus...terjun dari bumbung bangunan - bukan dari tingkap tingkat satu! bahlul!

followed Azreen yesterday to yoga class at about 5 p.m.

great space. those who attended were a friendly lot. some poses were somewhat similar to what i've done during my weekly kettlebell (stretching) and aikido (warm up) classes.

as usual, the gossip session we had on the way to yoga continued for another hour. topics? everything under the sun!

yeah, i had fun.

My Mother taught me ESP...
"Put your sweater on; don't you think that I know when you're cold?"

My Mother taught me TO MEET A CHALLENGE...
"What were you thinking? Answer me when I talk to you...Don't talk back to me!"

My Mother taught me HUMOUR...
"When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

My Mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT...
"If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up."

My Mother taught me about GENETICS...
"You are just like your father!"

My Mother taught me about my ROOTS...
"Do you think you were born in a barn?"

My Mother taught me about the WISDOM of AGE...
"When you get to be my age, you will understand."

My Mother taught me about ANTICIPATION. ..
"Just wait until your father gets home."

My Mother taught me about RECEIVING...

In between all this, my Mother taught me how to Live!
Thank you Mom for all I have learned these years.

best kan? tak share dengan orang lain tu! hehehe...

goodbyes

hello, folks! so sorry for being "absent" for two weeks. life has been hectic as usual. challenges were aplenty. hhmm...

1. the week before last had seen 4 deaths of my relatives which had occurred one after another. two of late Dad's male cousins (which themselves were brothers) died on Monday and Thursday respectively. on Tuesday and Wednesday - two relatives of mom.

2. on Monday afternoon last week...Bang Lan's (my maternal 1st cousin) mom-in-law had lost her battle with cancer. Aunt Jawahir's old flame - Tan Sri Abd. Taib Mahmud (yup, the current Sarawak CM) paid his last respect on the day of her funeral the following day.

3. Lejla Abu Bekir passed away on Wednesday. who was she? Tan Sri Abd. Taib Mahmud's 68 year-old wife...also succumbed to cancer. must had been a huge blow for him though - a lady whom he once had the hots for and his wife...both had gone to be with their Creator on the same week! she was laid to rest at her hubby's burial ground.

4. i was freed on Wednesday too, for my 11-month relationship had ended. i was expecting it, and it's a clean break up. i wish my ex all the best in his future undertakings.

it was meaningful - dear MM. you will forever be my friend and rest assured, you will not be forgotten even for a second. go realize your dreams...my prayers are with you.

5. i got my convo letter last week from YUAITIEM. YAY!!! i will get to sport the dark blue gown and mortar board on Gawai Day. i will finally get to call myself an alumnus once the ceremony is over.

indeed...what had happened did signify goodbyes. life has its own ways to materialize them.

tunggu aje...

...i'll post an entry - soon!

21.4.09

3rd day of the week!

all was well...

1. aikido on Sunday was even better than i had expected. though there was this minor miscommunication between Pak Dillah, Shikin and us, class was still conducted during the usual slot. Dani, Jali and Baby weren't around. Shikin too. therefore, it's just Pak Dillah and another (manly) instructor - Abang Mat.

unlike Dani, Jali and Baby, Abang Mat was more accommodating yet strict. he didn't mind repeating even the simplest moves which yours truly stupidly weren't able to comprehend. of course, he's hot!

2. met Esthna for lunch on Monday. macam biasalah, i had to switch on my Datin Farah mode.

Sportsplanet was where i had my dinner last night. ada BBQ! the spread consisted of the usuals - chicken wings, sausages, burger patties, fishes (terubok and kembung) and veggies. simple - i know, but we had fun! there were Ima & Zai, Gayah & Nono, Nai, Abang Olen, Suhaimi, Adib, Basri and yours truly - among others.

19.4.09

just a recap...

1. i felt surprisingly okay throughout Wednesday's kettlebell class. i did not consume anything after lunch apart from a couple of litres of water hours before to avoid dehydration. i guess that's good news for i didn't feel nauseated at all. as usual, i'd sweat buckets after 10 minutes into the session. there were only Kevin, Azreen and myself. being in a small group of people somehow had increased my focus on completing each exercise.

so far so good.

stayed back for an hour at Studio 23 catching up with Azreen...while gulping down the contents of 2 cans of 100 PLUS.

2. met Ashraf at Ileq Ileq on Thursday night. yup...a delight indeed. he did confirm about Bob's recent engagement to Leyana, as well as Razi's. he's now a DPP [typical for an LLB (Hons.) holder] and considering applying for PTD. if he feels that he could survive working with the gomen, by all means - go for PTD. being a DPP has its perks but it's undeniably stressful.

the hiburan at Ileq Ileq sucked that night. the band which performed was good. the sound system wasn't.

3. met the person behind Lea Laurielle after solat Jumaat . it was an eventful meeting. i had a blast and i hope the said person was too.

4. aikido class was fun. Diana finally joined the class. we're taught by Ghazali and Hamdani this time around. Baby couldn't make it for he followed his dad to the dojo. they only came when we're about to leave.

i wonder what would be in store for me this afternoon. hhmm...

hari ini hari Selasa...

happy 38th birthday, Bang Nasser!

13.4.09

aktiviti ku di hari Easter...

1. spent Easter morning at home. brunch were the classic old tumpik with beef rendang.

2. aikido at 3.30 p.m. Baby was indeed the Sensei again. couldn't really concentrate on my lesson, unlike yesterday. entah, hilang fokus!

3. posed for a photoshoot at Warriors' Square as one of Nizam's many subjects. there were also Zai & Ima, Mira & O'oi, Shikin, Maymei and Baby.

4. attended a majlis doa selamat in conjuction of Zai's parents' Pearl wedding anniversary (April 1st) and also Zai & Ima's Wood wedding anniversary (April 10th). the spread was burp-worthy.

5. to end my Easter Sunday, went karaoke-ing with Zai & Ima and Dino. i sucked, but i wasn't tone deaf.

classic Yasmin Ahmad!

i am not as complicated as others have perceived...

if i hate you, i will hate you for the rest of my life...which include making fun of you until you cannot stand it anymore and ignoring your existence at all cost.

if i care about you, i will do it wholeheartedly...and it does not need to be let known to the masses.

semoga bahagia hingga ke akhir hayat!

happy 5th wedding anniversary, Zai & Ima.

God is with you, my friend...

Syed, if He wills it...it'd be yours. stay positive, alright? i love you. all the best.

Sarawak cuti esok, yay! Sabah juga, yay!

why? tomorrow's Good Friday - to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

an anniversary...

today - April 9th - marks my 3rd year in Blogspot. i am still the same, albeit setting up blogs and deleting them for several times. alhamdulillah, my 4 blogs are still alive and kicking - this (You Want Me To Be Politically Correct?); my poetry blogs (Words of The Ungrateful and From Oklahoma To Wisconsin); and Eid One World In Photos.

3 years in Blogspot - superficial maybe, but i have seen myself grow...be it positively or otherwise.

here's for more fabulous years to come.

thank you, readers - wherever you may be.

I Have Learned

I’ve Learned…
That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I’ve Learned…
That when you’re in love, it shows.

I’ve Learned…
That just one person saying to me, “You’ve made my day!” makes my day.

I’ve Learned…
That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I’ve Learned…
That being kind is more important than being right.

I’ve Learned…
That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I’ve Learned…
That I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help him in some other way.

I’ve Learned…
That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I’ve Learned…
That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I’ve Learned…
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I’ve Learned…
That we should be glad God doesn’t give us everything we ask for.

I’ve Learned…
That money doesn’t buy class.

I’ve Learned…
That it’s those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I’ve Learned…
That under everyone’s hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I’ve Learned…
That the Lord didn’t do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

I’ve Learned…
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I’ve Learned…
That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I’ve Learned…
That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I’ve Learned…
That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I’ve Learned…
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

’ve Learned…
That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I’ve Learned…
That life is tough, but I’m tougher.

I’ve Learned…
That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I’ve Learned…
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I’ve Learned…
That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I’ve Learned…
That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I’ve Learned…
That I can’t choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

I’ve Learned…
That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you’re hooked for life.

I’ve Learned…
That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.

I’ve Learned…
That it is best to give advice in only two circumstances; when it is requested and when it is a life-threatening situation.

I’ve Learned…
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
